Staff Profile

My name is Dr. Iheanyi Valentine Ekechukwu, a lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. My academic journey has taken me through some of Nigeria’s leading institutions. I obtained my B.Sc. in Sociology from Imo State University, Owerri, my M.Sc. in Sociology from the University of Lagos, Akoka, an MBA in Financial Management from Lagos State University, Ojo, and later earned my Ph.D. in Industrial Sociology from the University of Ibadan. Before joining academia, I built a rewarding career in the banking sector, where I rose to the position of General Manager in Investment Banking. Along the way, I also obtained several professional certifications. I am a Member of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria, member of Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA), member of Institute of Capital Market Registrars, and a Registered Sponsored Individual with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Abuja. My teaching career began at JPTS, in partnership with the South American University, where I had the privilege of supervising over 50 postgraduate students. Since joining UNIZIK, I have continued to mentor and guide students while conducting research in areas such as Capital Markets, Industrial Relations, and the Socio-Economic Implications of Insecurity in Southeast Nigeria. With a blend of practical industry experience and academic depth, I am passionate about guiding students to produce research that is not only academically sound but also relevant to real-world challenges.
