Professor of Public Administration and Local Government, an erudite scholar with several years of teaching experience was born on June 24, 1961 at Ette in olamaboro LGA of kogi state, but his parent hails from ufuma in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, young Basil took advantage of his early environment which provided him access to all levels of education. He had his secondary education at community secondary school, Isienu, Nsukka from 1973 to 1978 before he proceeded to University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1980 and graduated in 1984 with Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Political Science. In 1985 Basil embarked on a Post – Graduate programme in Public Administration at his alma-mater. He completed the programme in 1987 and was awarded Master of Science Degree in Public Administration. Thereafter, he pursued and obtained a postgraduate diploma in education (PGDE) in 1989. Shortly after this, he bagged his Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in 1993 in political science with specialization in public Administration, all from the same institution. His consistent rigorous academic prowess raised him to his present position. Prof. Nwankwo began his academic career in 1989 as an assistant lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was promoted lecturer II in 1992 and became a Senior Lecturer in 1995. Due to his conscientious research and impressive scholarly publications, he was appointed to the rank of professor of Public Administrator in 2006. He also lectured at the Eha-Amufu college of Education, Enugu between 1985 and 1991
Between 2000 and 2002, he was the head of the Department of Public Administration, university of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was also HOD, Department of Public Administration, Kogi State University, Ayigba between 2006 and 2008, Dean, Faculty of Management Science, Kogi State University Anyigbafrom 2008–2014 Prof Nwankwo has been saddled with several scholarly responsibilities. He has also served as chief consultant to Technical Committee to technical committee on the review of the structure of Local Government Councils in Nigeria as well as Ph.D External Examiner to many Universities in Nigeria such as Department of local Government studies, ObafemiAwolowoUniversty, IIe-Ife in 2003, Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, Ambrose Ali University,Ekpoma, EdoState,Department of Political Science, Faculty ofSocial Sciences, Madonna University,Okija Department ofPublicAdministration, Faculty of Management Sciences, Anambra State University, Uli
With several scholarly publications to his credits, Prof. Nwankwo’s contributions to the educational development of Africa are commendable. His academic treasure crest is replete with over 15 textbooks, 60 journals, 16 chapters in mainline books, 13 published technical reports; 4 published conference proceedings/workshops; and 2 Academic Monographs. He has also recorded over 70 Attendance at conferences/Workshops.
With all these academic accomplishment, Prof. Basil Chukwuemeka Nwankwo fits sufficiently to be described as an encyclopedia of knowledge. In recognition for this rare intellectual exploits, Prof Nwankwo has been conferred with several awards, honors and letters of commendation. Notable amongst these awards include: Gold medal Award for incorruptible ICON in Nigeria; Grand Award for Productivity on Higher Education in Africa (GAPA); African Merit Award for Integrity, Accountability and Transparency in Leadership and African Peace Award. . He is a Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration ofNigeria, Fellow Chartered Institute of Local Government & Public Administration ofNigeria,Member Nigerian Institute of ManagementNigerian Political Science Association,Member Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.MemberTeachers Registration Council of Nigeria.He has successfully supervised several Masters and Doctoral students, of whom some have become reputable professors in Universities across Nigeria and some of them are here today.No wonder why some academic pundits call him Professor of professors.
Prof. Nwankwo’s belief that education is the best legacy to be handed down to generation yet unborn is the reason he has always worked assiduously with an unusual desire to give himself to the betterment of his country. He is happily married to Dr. (Mrs.) Ifeyinwa Gloria Nwankwo, a medical practitioner and fellow incorruptible ICON in Africa (FIIIA)..Professor Basil Chukwuemeka Nwankwo is currently a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria.
