Dr. Darlington Nnamdi Onyejike is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Anatomy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus, Nigeria. Recently appointed Deputy Director of the Nnewi Campus, School of General Studies, he also serves as the academic representative-elect on the College Board of the College of Health Sciences. Over the years, Dr. Onyejike has contributed significantly to institutional development through active participation in various university, faculty, and departmental committees.
Dr. Onyejike recently completed a one-year appointment as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Clinical Department of Forensic Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His extensive academic background includes a PhD in Forensic Anatomy from the University of Calabar, Nigeria; an MBA in Management from the University of Nicosia, Cyprus; an MSc in Morbid Anatomy from Nnamdi Azikiwe University; and a BSc in Anatomy from Anambra State University (now Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University). He also holds professional certifications in Modern Embalming Science and General Mortuary Practice.
A prolific scholar, Dr. Onyejike is a reviewer and editorial board member for several high-impact, peer-reviewed journals. He has authored over 30 original research articles indexed in SCOPUS, AJOL, Web of Science, CrossRef, PMC, and Google Scholar. His supervisory contributions extend across undergraduate and postgraduate research projects. His expertise spans forensic taphonomy, pharmacognosy, herbal medicine, kinanthropometry, and specialist embalming. Notably, he led a pioneering research project on postmortem interval (PMI) estimation in Nigeria, contributing groundbreaking studies on PMI in sub-Saharan Africa. His current research focuses on PMI estimation in dismembered porcine models in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.
Dr. Onyejike's dedication to education, research, and mentorship has earned him numerous awards and accolades. He has delivered keynote presentations at national and international conferences and secured competitive research and conference travel grants. An active member of professional societies, he is affiliated with the Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria (SECAN), the Anatomical Society of Nigeria (ASN), the American Association for Anatomy (AAA), and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS).
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Onyejike is deeply engaged in community and cultural leadership. He is a member of the prestigious Ozo Society of Ekwulumili, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, and holds traditional titles, including IsiObi of Umudim Village and Aka-ji-ofo UmuDimokweke Clan. During his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, he was honored with a chieftaincy title by the Makurdi Local Government Traditional Council in recognition of his leadership and service.
Dr. Onyejike is a devoted family man, married to Lolo Ifeoma Onyejike, with whom he has three children. His life’s work reflects an unwavering commitment to advancing forensic science, fostering academic excellence, and uplifting his community.
