Dr. Ogechukwu Aribodor is a distinguished academic and researcher, holding dual doctoral degrees in Public Health Parasitology and Parasitology. She currently serves as a Reader/Associate Professor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria. Dr. Aribodor is the first individual in the Faculty of Biosciences to achieve this remarkable milestone, earning her the esteemed nickname "Ugonaabo" or "the Double D." She is the second woman in the university's history to hold dual Ph.Ds, underscoring her pioneering spirit and commitment to academic excellence. Her academic journey, marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence, began with her outstanding achievement as the best-graduating student in the Department of Zoology in 2004. Her professional career includes a notable tenure at the United Bank for Africa PLC from 2007 to 2014, where her compassionate service earned her the affectionate title of "God's Banker," reflecting her humanitarian approach to her work. As a Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) Fellow affiliated with the Nigerian Hub and the Project Manger, Dr. Aribodor has enriched her expertise through the completion of the World Health Organization/Tropical Disease Research (WHO/TDR) MOOC on Implementation Research, focusing on Infectious Diseases of Poverty. She holds prestigious fellowships with the African Research Excellence Fund (AREF) and Middle Eastern Biology of Parasitism (MeBOP) and is an alumna of the ISGlobal Barcelona Institute of Global Health. Her research portfolio is deeply rooted in Public Health Parasitology, with focal areas including Genital Schistosomiasis, Crowdfunding, Health Systems Strengthening, and Bio-remediation. She actively champions initiatives such as School Feeding and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). In 2018, Dr. Aribodor was awarded a grant from the Joint WHO-AFRO-TDR-EDCTP Small Grants Scheme for Implementation Research. She has secured multiple competitive academic grants from esteemed organizations including WHO, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TeTFund), and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) PhD Research Grant. Currently, she holds grants from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), TDR, Social Entrepreneurship to Spur Health (SESH), and SIHI for her implementation study, highlighting her ability to secure funding for impactful research. These journeys have taken her to numerous countries including Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, Austria, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, the United Arab Emirates, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Qatar, and Turkey, showcasing her commitment to sharing knowledge and fostering international collaboration. Her scholarly work includes over 33 publications in reputable journals and a book, with her research cited over 375 times, reflecting the significant impact and relevance of her contributions. Dr. Aribodor serves as a reviewer for esteemed journals such as BMC Infectious Diseases, PLoS NTD, BMC Public Health, International Health, PLoS ONE, and Parasite Epidemiology and Control. She is also a Guest Editorial Member for the Mental Health, Stigma, and Neglected Tropical Diseases Supplement in International Health (RSTMH). As an early career researcher, Dr. Aribodor has mentored and supervised two Master’s students and over 50 undergraduates to graduation, demonstrating her commitment to academic growth and research development. Her impactful work on Schistosomiasis and Soil-transmitted Helminthiasis in Anambra State showcases her dedication to community sustainability, and her outreach programs during World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day celebrations exemplify her commitment to public health education and engagement. Dr. Aribodor is a passionate advocate for mentorship, leading initiatives such as the "Empowering Early-Career Female Academics in Biosciences for Effective Leadership: A Pilot Mentorship Initiative at Nnamdi Azikiwe University," using the HERMES Practical Guide for Sustainable Excellence. Her current project aims to foster mentorship, leadership, and sustainable excellence in public health research among women in academia. Her dedication to advancing public health extends to collaborations with international colleagues from organizations such as WHO, RSTMH, LSHTM, SESH, and SIHI. Dr. Aribodor is actively involved in professional organizations, contributing to public health understanding in Nigeria and across Africa. She is an active member of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN), the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), the NTD Non-Governmental Development Organizations Network (NNN) WASH Working Group, and Improving Community Health Outcomes through Research, Dialogue, and Systems Strengthening (iCHORDS). As the Cluster Leader of the COVID-19 Task Force Committee for PPSN, she played a pivotal role in collaborating with the Anambra State Ministry of Health to control the spread of the virus. Dr. Aribodor is keen on cross-border collaborations that contribute to Public Health Parasitology and Community Practice, focusing on sharing knowledge on control mechanisms, cost-effective exchange programs, and developing effective work synergies.
