Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwuma Okafor is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Microbiology and Brewing, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka with over ten years teaching and research experience. Ugochukwu does Research in biotechnology and Microbiology, with major interests in Environmental Bioremediation, water and waste water treatment and molecular biology. In 2024, he carried out independent research as a Postdoctoral fellow at Brunel University London, where he worked on the Use of Machine learning (ML) Models in the Remediation of Hydrocarbon Polluted Soils to mitigate Cancer via Bio-augmentation methods and have developed a model that can detect contaminant levels in hydrocarbon polluted soils. He is currently developing the model that can detect the extent of contaminant removal from the soil after remediation towards achieving net zero. His expertise in machine learning and data analytics is utilised in the research. Ugochukwu has done projects on clean up of Paint industry Effluent polluted sites combining bioattenuation methods and composting using selected bulking agents, Bioremediation of crude oil-polluted soil using Chicken Droppings.
