Dr. Onyeka Linda Anagu

Staff Profile

Linda is based at Nnamdi Azikiwe University where she contributes to the training of future pharmacists at the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology. She completed her Ph.D. at Keele University and was then awarded an Africa Excellence Research Fund (AREF) for a post-doctoral fellowship. Linda Anagu is a pharmacist and molecular parasitologist with expertise in culturing Plasmodium, human endothelial cells and monocytes, PBMCs isolation, quantifying transcriptional expression using quantitative PCR, molecular cloning and subsequent data analysis. She has a good understanding of Plasmodium genetics and the design and analysis of epidemiological studies. She uses this knowledge to investigate malaria pathogenesis with the aim of bringing her research findings to the notice of policymakers and thus positively impacting the malaria control strategy. She has trained postgraduate students, staff and research assistants on the in vitro culture of Plasmodium in the malaria research room of the molecular research laboratory, Okofia campus of the University. She is an Associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Africa Research Excellence Fund Fellow. She has demonstrated her progress toward becoming a research leader by winning two international grants. She worked on the Zero Malaria Starts with Me – Draw the Line against Malaria campaign in 2022 as a malaria champion. This campaign was organised by Malaria No More to raise Global Funds during the Kigali Summit on Malaria and NTDs in 2022. Linda is happily married and is blessed with children. She enjoys baking and dancing in her spare time.
