Staff Profile

Martha Chidimma Egenti is a lecturer at the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she earned her B.A. in Linguistics in 2005, M.A. in Linguistics in 2009, and her Ph.D. in Linguistics in 2017. She has over a decade of experience in research, lecturing, academic advising, community service, and administrative work. Martha has participated in leadership and research training workshops where she served as a facilitator and resource person. She belongs to various editorial boards and committees. She served as an editorial board member for the Postgraduate Workshop papers, editor of the Unizik Journal of Arts and Humanities (UJAH), and associate editor of the new journal Ogirisi: A Journal of African Studies. She is also a member of several editorial boards. Among her numerous administrative duties, Martha has served as departmental postgraduate coordinator, departmental exams officer, and faculty representative to the Ekwueme Multidisciplinary Research Centre. Further scholarly endeavors have seen her participate in the Summer School on Documentary Linguistics and Variationist Sociolinguistics in Bamberg, Germany, in 2014. She was one of the young visiting scholars at Xiamen University, Fujian Province, China, in 2015. Martha's refereed papers have appeared in local and international journals and books. Also, she has attended various remarkable international conferences. Her pursuit of art and academic scholarship has taken her to many countries, such as Germany, China, Morocco, Cote d'Ivoire, the United States, and Ghana. Her research interests are in the areas of lexical semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, text/corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, and lexicography, which cut across the humanities, education, psychology, and migration studies. Currently, Martha has been the Deputy Director of Awka Window on America since June 2021. She has participated in various American Spaces trainings and workshops on leadership, management, marketing, digital literacy, and communication skills. Martha loves innovation, creativity, and learning.
