Staff Profile

Uju Regina Ezenekwe is a distinguished expert in leadership, macroeconomic policy, corporate health, development, communication, and policy document editing. Her extensive teaching and research background fuels her passion for these areas. She has been actively involved in various conferences, seminars, and workshops globally, preparing her to excel in roles related to these fields. Ezenekwe has authored several books and chapters, further establishing her credentials. At Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Awka, Ezenekwe has made significant contributions. She was the first female Head of the Economics Department from 2017 to 2019 and has held several other key positions. She served as Associate Director of the Library and Information Centre at Unizik Business School (UBS) from 2016 to 2023. She was the Deputy Director of the School of General Studies (SGS) from October 2019 to February 2022. She was also the Deputy Director of the Center for Migration Studies Unizik and is now Deputy Director of Unizik Business School. Ezenekwe is also an active member of various university committees. During her tenure as Head of the Economics Department, Ezenekwe enhanced students' practical understanding of econometrics, empowering them to conduct independent analyses. As Deputy Director at SGS, she transformed the school operations, improving procurement, duties execution, and digital result computation. She also played a key role in organizing international conferences for UBS. Ezenekwe is a Professor of Development and Health Economics at NAU, where she completed her B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Economics, specializing in Development and Health Economics. Additionally, she holds an MBA in Management Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and in October 2020, she completed a course on Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies through HarvardX. Ezenekwe has extensive experience reviewing papers for journals like SAGE and Premier Publishers and has served as an editor for several publications, including the Journal of Economic Studies and The Nigerian Journal of Energy and Environmental Economics. Her professional affiliations include the Nigerian Economic Society, the Association for the Advancement of African Women Economists (AAAWE), and the International Association for Female Academic Doctors (IAFAD). She is also an Associate Fellow at the African Heritage Institute, a Fellow at the Center for Migration at NAU, and a Junior Fellow at the Pan-African Scientific Research Council. Ezenekwe has consulted for the African Development Institute and Afriheritage and contributed to various technical working groups (TWGs), including those for BECAN IV, AFREhealth Kumasi, and Health Care Financing in Anambra State. She has received an IBR grant from TethFund for her work.
