Prof. Uchenna Eunice Ekpunobi received her B.Sc, M.Sc and PhD degrees in 2000, 2005 and 2009 respectively from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. She has demonstrated an immense capacity for independent academic work which has won her a number of research grants/awards/travel grants notably 2019 TETFund NRF grant, TETFund IBR Grant, IUPAC 2019 Grant for participation in 2019 IUPAC Paris World, Royal Society of Chemistry travel grant for the PACN Congress 2014 on Biodiversity and Global Challenge, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, OPCW sponsorship towards the 12th International Chemistry Conference in Africa (ICCA), Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa, Young Scientist Award from the 2011 IUPAC World Chemistry Congress, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Senate Research Grant for PhD programme, Anambra State University, Uli in 2008.
Her area of specializations are Analytical and Materials Chemistry and her research interest has been Profitable utilization of Nigerian natural resources and environmental menaces: (i)Recovery of silver from used x-ray films and its use in thin and nanofilms for photovoltaics and electronics, (ii) Modifications through grafting and utilization of Clay deposits in production of water filter candles, ceramics, enamels, porcelain, etc., (iii) Use of natural dyes in fabricating and characterizing Dye Sensitized Solar Cells(DSSC), (iv) Conversion of waste polymers for use as raw materials in renewable energy, (v) Assessment of heavy metals and harmful chemicals in food stuffs and cosmetics
She co-authored over 50 publications. She has successfully supervised over fifty undergraduate, five postgraduate diploma, seven M.Sc. and several ongoing PhD and M.Sc research students. She has attended several International and local Conferences and has published widely in scholarly peer reviewed international and local journals.
