Thecla Ngozi Udemmadu (nee Obiora), a professor of Igbo language/Linguistics of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, is a Post-doctoral Fellow of American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) in African Humanities Program (AHP), who distinguished herself in numerous researches hovering around Morphology, Syntax, Semantics, Pragramatics, Sociolinguistics and Discourse Analysis. Her journal articles which are more than eighty (80) in number have been published in reputable local, national and international journals. She authored eight (8) standard and advanced Igbo textbooks, among which are: Mmalite Omumu Asusu Igbo, Omumu Nghota Okwu (Semantiks), Mofoloji Igbo, Utoasusu na Usorookwu Igbo Agumagu Igbo 1 na 2, among others. Prof. Thecla Udemmadu has translated so many national and local documents from the English language to the Igbo language. From a humble beginning, Prof. Thecla took a bold step to academics with BA(ED) Igbo/Linguistics from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, MA Igbo/Linguistics and PhD Igbo/Linguistics from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Before joining the academic community, Prof. Thecla was a renowned Igbo news broadcaster with the then, Minaj Systems Radio and Television. She also worked with Ray Power and UNIZIK FM. She has supervised several Masters theses and PhD dissertations. Prof. Udemmadu is a PhD, MA, and undergraduate external examiner to University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Imo State University, (IMSU) and Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze. She is the current editor and Editor-in- Chief of five journals. She is a member of some professional bodies like Igbo Studies Association (ISA), West African Languages Association, Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN), among others.
