Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye is the first indigenous Professor of Chinese language and linguistics in Nigeria and Africa. He was the pioneer coordinator and pioneer head of the Chinese Studies department at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. He was also the pioneer director (acting) of the Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. He is the first University staff in Nigeria to study and teach Chinese language. He is the first Nigerian Lecturer with a doctorate degree in Chinese language. His research areas are Linguistics (Igbo and English) and Chinese studies. He has BA and MA in linguistics from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and PGD in Chinese language and culture from Beijing Foreign Studies University & PhD in Chinese from Xiamen University, China.
