Dr Jane Nkolika Ezeonu is a Consultant Community Medicine Physician, specialized in Health Policy and Management, and brings with her decades of experience that make her exceptionally qualified to lead a University Medical Centre. She seamlessly blends frontline medical practice as a Consultant Physician with a strategic, systems-thinking approach to healthcare management. Her core philosophy is rooted in a deep commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care and administrative proficiency, which she demonstrated by establishing and managing the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Hostel Sick Bay- creating a prototype model for accessible, efficient student health services. This internal institutional experience is complemented by significant external leadership, including serving as a member of the pioneer Board of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, where she contributed foundational governance and strategic oversight. Dr Ezeonu possesses a rare dual expertise: she is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) and holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Leeds. This enables her to bridge daily clinical operations with broader public health strategy. She has advised State and Federal Ministries of Health, as well as international organisations, on health system strengthening and health program management, demonstrating her ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes. Her leadership was nationally recognized during the COVID-19 pandemic as a member of the National Rapid Response Team, and she has actively contributed to shaping health policies. A respected voice in the medical community, she has earned the confidence of her peers and has served in elected leadership roles, including as Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State Branch. Dr Ezeonu is driven by the belief that a University Medical Centre should be a nexus of excellent clinical care, academic innovation, and community engagement. She is passionate about leveraging her unique blend of operational insights, governance experience, and collaborative leadership to inspire teams, elevate clinical standards, and foster a truly integrated and resilient health system for the university community.
