Staff Profile

Ebele Stella Nwokoye is a senior academic, an erudite scholar, and a researcher in the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State. She started her career in 2004 as a Graduate Assistant and rose through the rank and file, to the position of a Professor of Development and Human Resource Economics in October, 2021. Aside being an alumnus of Federal Government Girls College Onitsha, she holds a bachelor of science degree (second class upper division) in Economics and Education from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. She is an alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka having obtained a master degree in Human Resource Economics in 2006 and a doctorate degree in Development Economics in 2014. Ebele Nwokoye holds many research positions such as Associate Research Fellow with the African Heritage Institute, Full Member of the Nigerian Economic Society, Fellow of the Institute of Policy Management Development, Research Associate with the UNIZIK Centre for Sustainable Development, Inaugural Chair for Anambra State Chapter of the Nigerian Economic Society, Member of the INET Young Scholars Institute, among others. Ebele has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences. She has contributed over 30 chapters to mainstream textbooks; she has five textbooks to her credit; she has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and they are visible online; and she has published with the Central Bank of Nigerian, the African Development Bank, and the Nigerian Economic Society, to mention but a few. She has held various administrative positions within the academic circle such as Managing Editor and subsequently, Editor for Journal of Economic Studies (published by the Department of Economics, UNIZIK); Managing Editor, and subsequently, Editor for the Nigeria Journal of Energy and Environmental Economies (published by the Association of Energy and Environmental Economics); Coordinator for the Departmental Sandwich Program; Coordinator for the Departmental Postgraduate Studies; as well as a former head of the Department of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. Ebele has successfully supervised and graduated over 15 master degree and 10 doctorate degree candidates. She is a content reviewer for numerous publishers including Emerald, Springer, and Scopus-indexed journals. She has thus far offered her services on adjunct bases to the Postgraduate Studies at UNIZIK Business School and at Paul University Awka. Her research interests include issues pertaining to the labour market, the money market, human resource, welfare economics, entrepreneurship, economic growth, international trade and policy, environmental, and energy economics, amongst others.
