PROFILE OF PROFESSOR CECILIA AMAOGE EME 

Professor Cecilia Amaoge Eme lectures in the Department of Linguistics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (Unizik). A Professor of Linguistics specializing in Phonetics and Phonology, with research interest in Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Documentary Linguistics, and Applied Linguistics, she holds these qualifications obtained from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka: PhD Linguistics, M.A. Linguistics and Igbo Language, B.A. Linguistics/Igbo, and Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). She is a distinguished academic and a keynote speaker and lead paper presenter at various renowned conferences. Prof. Cecilia Eme presented a unique Inaugural Lecture in 2015. Her lecture, the 27th in the series and the first to be presented by a linguist of her university, entitled Nchọcha mgbakọ aka nke ndị nka asụsụ na ndị ọkachamara dị iche iche (Linguists in collaborative research with other professionals), was remarkably the first to fully appear in two languages- English and Igbo- and presented in Igbo. Thereafter, a 518-page book Current issues in linguistics, language and gender studies: A festschrift in honour of Professor Cecilia Amaoge Eme, a collection of well researched papers, contributed by renowned academics both from within and outside Nigeria, was presented to celebrate her academic excellence and mentorship. She has assessed internally and externally many candidates for promotion to the ranks of Reader and Professor. She has been: Head of Department, Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts; Chairperson, Faculty of Arts Examination Misconduct Committee; Chairperson, Faculty of Arts Post Graduate Committee; Chairperson, Faculty of Arts Direct Teaching and Laboratory Costs Committee; Chairperson, Faculty of Arts Curriculum Committee; Member, NUC accreditation team; Member, Senate Committee on the Promotion and Enhancement of the Igbo Language and Culture; Chairperson, Akpo Development Association, Women Wing, Awka Branch. She is a Fellow of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN), and member of many learned societies like Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), and West African Linguistic Society (WALS). Her hobbies include listening to local and world news, and watching animals in their habitats (as in Nat Geo Wild).
