Dr. Ayatu Ojonugwa Usman is a Nigerian geophysicist and academic with over fifteen years of experience in teaching, research, and applied geosciences. Born on March 16, 1984, in Anyigba, Kogi State, he developed an early interest in earth sciences which shaped his academic and professional journey. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, followed by a master’s degree in applied Geophysics from the same institution. Driven by a passion for advanced research, he earned a Ph.D. in Applied Geophysics from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2018. Dr. Usman began his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba in 2017. In 2018, he moved to Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), where he rose through the ranks from Lecturer II to Senior Lecturer. He currently transfers his service to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka as a Senior Lecturer. Throughout his career, he has held key administrative roles including Postgraduate Coordinator and Program Coordinator for Applied Geophysics. His research focuses on environmental geophysics, geothermal energy assessment, hydrogeophysics, and subsurface structural mapping. He has authored over sixty-five (65) peer-reviewed publications in reputable international journals and has contributed significantly to the advancement of geophysical exploration techniques in Nigeria. In addition, he has supervised over fifty undergraduate projects and several postgraduate theses. Dr. Usman is an active member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists (NAH), Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He is also involved in consultancy services for government and industry, particularly in geophysical data analysis, mineral exploration, and groundwater studies. His career is marked by a strong commitment to academic excellence, capacity building, and the development of sustainable energy and mineral resources through innovative geophysical approaches. He is happily married and the marriage is blessed with children.
