Staff Profile

Dr Blessing Nonye ONYIMA is an Associate Professor of Anthropology with specialization in Medical and Cultural Anthropology. She is proficient in qualitative ethnographic research with themes on Culture, Health, Gender, Environment, Transdisciplinary (TD) Research and Conflict Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology; an M.A. in Medical Anthropology; and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology, from the University of Ibadan. A seasoned ethnographer and qualitative researcher. 2024 External Examiner for Rhodes University, South Africa. A 2022 Visiting Fellow at the African Studies Centre Rhodes University South Africa. A 2019-2021 LIRA Grant Award Winner and Co-principal investigator (CO-PI) in the Leading Integrated Research Agenda for Africa (LIRA 2030) sponsored by the International Science Council (ISC) and Network for African Science Academies (NASAC), which is a transdisciplinary research that took place in South Africa and Nigeria. 2022 fully funded AHP-AHA Manuscript Development Workshop in Stenllenbosch South Africa. 2020 Fully funded LIRA 2030 Annual Research Forum on Theories and Methods of Transdisciplinary Research Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 2019 Fully Funded Author Aid Research Writing Training Workshop For LIRA 2030 Co-Investigators held at Accra Ghana. Fellow 2016 African Humanities Program (AHP) Dissertation Completion Grant of the American Council for Learned Societies (ACLS) Sponsored by Carnegie Corporation. Laureate of the 2014 Association of Commonwealth University (ACU) Travel Grant to the British Sociological Association Conference (BSA) held at Leeds University UK. 2013 Laureate of the fully sponsored American of Political Science Association (APSA Africa Workshop) held at Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. She has published in local and international journals and contributed to book chapters with two books to her credit.
